This Privacy Policy describes how NeedThat Studio, LLC ("Scholarly," "we," "us," or "our"), a Delaware limited liability company, collects, uses, and shares personal information when you use the Scholarly mobile application and the website at tryscholarly.app (together, the "Service").
1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us when you create an account and complete onboarding, including:
- Identity & contact information: name, email address, phone number, date of birth.
- Demographic information: gender, ethnicity, citizenship status, location (state, city, ZIP).
- Academic information: high school and college name, graduation year, GPA, major, field of study, enrollment status.
- Background information: household income bracket, first-generation status, Pell eligibility, veteran status, disability status, LGBTQ+ status (all optional).
- Activities: extracurriculars, awards, languages, community service, work experience.
- Application materials: personal statements, essays, resumes, transcripts, and profile photos that you upload.
- Subscription and purchase data: handled through Apple's App Store; we receive transaction identifiers but not your payment card information.
- Usage data: swipes, applications submitted, in-app actions, and basic device information.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To match you with scholarships you qualify for.
- To submit scholarship applications on your behalf when you swipe right.
- To operate, maintain, and improve the Service.
- To communicate with you about your account, applications, and updates.
- To verify subscriptions and process in-app purchases.
- To detect, prevent, and respond to fraud or abuse.
- To comply with legal obligations.
3. How We Share Your Information
We share your information in limited circumstances:
- With scholarship providers: When you swipe right to apply, we submit the relevant portions of your profile and application materials to the scholarship provider you've selected. This is the core function of the Service.
- With service providers: Such as Supabase (our database and authentication provider) and Apple (for in-app purchases), strictly to operate the Service.
- For legal reasons: If required by law or to protect rights, safety, and property.
- In a business transfer: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to you.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You may delete your account at any time from inside the app, after which we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
5. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these rights directly in the app, or by contacting us at privacy@tryscholarly.app.
6. Children's Privacy
Scholarly is intended for users age 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected such information, we will delete it.
7. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest, row-level security, and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
8. International Users
The Service is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, providing in-app notice.
